In 1953, the Thunderbirds were formed as an Air Demonstration Squadron. From 1984 the F-16A was used, but in 1992 they had changed to the F-16C model. Every year from March through to November, the Thunderbirds perform about 40 times at various air shows throughout the world and America.

About the Republic P-47D Thunderbolt Bubbletop
In May 1941, as the war raged in Europe, a single-engine fighter of more than 4t made its first flight. This fighter was the XP-47B, prototype of the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt of which a total of 15683 units will be built. Thanks to war experience, this aircraft was equipped with a 2000hp radial R-2800 engine, a supercharger and eight 12,7mm machine-guns.

The appearance of the cutting-edge P-51B Mustang marked a solid improvement to the protection of bomber formations. By the time the final D version was deployed, the control of German airspace was entirely in the grasp of the Allied Forces. The laminar airfoil and undersurface of the fuselage minimized air resistance, making the P-51D aerodynamically polished. For its power source, the P-51D packed a Packard Merlin V1650-7 engine with supercharger.

The P-47 was the first single-seated fighter to be equipped with a supercharger paired with a 2000hp engine, allowing it to fly at the same very high altitude as bombers. One of them was an analysis of the studies carried out by Dr. Alexander Lippisch on deltawinged aircraft. Based upon the information, the Douglas firm developed the F4D Skyray, the only operational interceptor with delta wings in the U.S. Navy.

Late in 1939, the United States Navy completed its testing of the Brewster XF2A-2 shipboard fighter, and modified its procurement contract for F2A-1 Buffalo's to 43 of the more powerful -2 version. The F2A-2 featured a number of refinements over the -1. A Wright R-1820-40 1,200 horsepower engine replaced the earlier 950 HP unit, to give a top speed of 334mph at 16,500 ft.
