Sent to Singapore to help deter Japanese advances in the region, the battleship Prince of Wales and battle cruiser Repulse were symbols of British naval power. On December 8th, 1941,these two capital ships, escorted by two E Class destroyers (HMS Electra, HMS Express), one S Class destroyer (HMS Tenedos), and the Australian navy destroyer HMAS Vampire, sent out from Singapore to attack a Japanese invasion force.

About the Pearl Harbor Attack
With its naval developement hampered by two nvaval armament limitation treaties, the Japanese Navy turned to the aircraft carrier and its strike planes as a counter balance. As war against the United States became more inevitable, the commander of the Japanese Combined Fleet, Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto devised a daring plan for a surprise attack on the U.S. Pacific Fleet base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii.
