About the Kubelwagen Type 82
The Kubelwagen was originally designed as a civilian vehicle, but after German militaristic expansion and mobilization in the late 1930's plans were soon made for a military version. After the poor performance of the Kubelwagen Type 62, an improved model designated Type 82 went into mass production in 1940.

The chassis of the tank would be covered in 150mm thick armor on the front and 80mm thick armor on the sides.

About the early production of the Tiger I
The fact that the Tiger I packed a 56 caliber, 88mm cannon that could penetrate a 138mm steel board from a range of 1,500 meters, was a frightening reality for the Allied Forces. Also intimidating was the reality that the armor plating of the Tiger was 100mm thick in the front and 80mm thick on the sides, compared to the M4 Sherman's frontal armor of only 51mm and side armor of only 38mm.

Kubelwagen Type 82-Africa Version
It was September of 1940 and Germany's Italian ally was unsuccessfully attempting to invade British-occupied Egypt. To support Italy in their struggle against the British, Germany deployed the German Africa Corps, which was comprised of the 5th Leichte (Panzer) Division and the 15th Panzer Corps, to Tripoli. The man chosen to lead this fighting force was Lieutenant General Erwin Rommel, who had already earned a glorious reputation for commanding the 7th Panzer Division, a.k.a. the "Phantom Division" during the Battle of France.
